Frequently asked questions
How does CareLinx work?
CareLinx is an online platform that helps connect families with Direct Support Professionals working under self-determination in Wayne County Michigan. CareLinx provides “technology with a human touch” -- families can access an online portal to view potential staff, message them, and set up interviews. How do I become eligible to use CareLinx’s services in Wayne County, Michigan?
Individuals must be participants in self-determination through the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network (DWIHN) and enrolled in Medicaid. Self-determination allows individuals with disabilities to choose their community living services to live fully included in the community. Medicaid is the insurance that pays for these community living services. For more information on self-determination please call DWIHN at 1-800-241-4949 to speak with their self-determination department or email selfdetermination@dwihn.org or contact The Arc NW at 313-532-7915.
What is involved in self-determination in Wayne County, MI?
Once enrolled in self-determination and Medicaid, the individual will work with a Supports Coordinator to set up a person-centered planning meeting. The planning meeting is attended by people chosen by the individual to assist in articulating the person’s dreams and goals. The Supports Coordinator will use the resulting person-centered plan to create an Individual Plan of Service (IPOS) and budget to support it.
The person and family can then hire Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide the community living services outlined in the IPOS. This is where CareLinx can help! CareLinx online platform helps individuals connect with and interview potential DSPs.
When an individual hires a DSP, the individual becomes the employer of record. To facilitate training and payment by Medicaid for the DSP, contact the Financial Management Services of The Arc of Northwest Wayne County 313-532-7915 ext. 205 or ext. 210.
